Dear 2018 - Reflecting on the Year

Dear 2018,

The end of the year is here and it's almost time for you to go. As always it's that time of year where I reflect on the year and everything that has happened...both good and bad.

I am usually filled with excitement and a little bit of fear during this time of year. You know it's a bit funny how being excited and afraid mixes well. I'm excited for the new year and the possibilities, but I'm also afraid of what can happen during the next year. As always, I wind up getting hit with a bit of sadness as I say farewell to the current year.

2018, you were one hell of a year. And I mean that in a good way. I've learned so many things especially about myself. You were the year that made me realize that I really have to start taking better care of myself. Self care was so important for me this year.

This year, I became a mommy again. I'm so grateful that I have three sons. I always wonder how did I get so lucky to find the love of my life and have three amazing sons.

Speaking of motherhood, things didn't go as planned when it came to my pregnancy. It was so much harder this time around. It was also full of surprises. I would have never thought that I would give birth at 35 weeks. To say that I was afraid would be an understatement. I was terrified. And then I was heartbroken when I found out that Raphael would have to stay in the NICU while I was discharged from the hospital. Although my boy was able to come home in just a couple of days, I was so worried and felt like I failed him as a mother. I still wonder to this day, what caused me to go into labor so early. The doctors say that I didn't do anything wrong and that sometimes it just happens, but I still want to know. I'm so incredibly grateful for the nurses and doctors who tended to Raphael and I. Those doctors and nurses were so amazing, kind, and so patient.

This year, I learned that it is ok to cut off toxic people and that includes family. This was a hard lesson for me to learn, but a very important one. I still wish them the best.

This year, I cried...a lot. Both tears of joy and tears of pain. I learned that it's ok to cry. In fact, crying helped reduce my stress. I think sometimes you just need to have a good cry.

This year, I didn't really feel like a great friend to many people. All of my friends are so understanding, but I'm hoping that next year I'm able to see my friends a bit more.

This year, I'm proud of my creative accomplishments. I'm proud of the projects that I have worked on. I accomplish my goal of being published in a magazine...twice! I'm also proud that I took some time off to work on some personal projects. Being able to make things just for me was just what I needed and really helped me get out of my comfort zone.

My word for this year was Grow. I wanted to grow as a writer, as a creative, and as a person. And I certainly believe that I did just that. I hope to continue on this path of growth in the new year. I hope that next year I am able to grow even more in these areas of my life.

2018, you were amazing and full of surprises. It's time to go and make way for the new year, but I'll never forget you.

Adios.

Target Finds

Ever since Babies R Us went out of business, I have been going to Target for all of our baby needs. I can honestly say that we would only go to Target maybe once or twice a year. Going to Babies R Us was just convenient for us. However, I am now a big fan of Target and I can see why so many people love this place.

I've been going to Target a couple of times a week and have been finding some really cool stuff. I thought it would be fun to make a new series for my blog called "Target Finds". The series is simple...I will just share items (mainly new-to-me) on the blog.

Let's see what I found at Target this month.

I was really excited to try these. Everything is in the cup and all you have to do is add your liquid and ingredients into your blender. Then you can pour everything back into the cup. These smoothies are perfect for the morning or for a snack/drink after a workout. I only tried "Rise" and "Energy", but there are other flavors available. I think I may try their green smoothie next.

I haven't tried the individual chocolate covered pretzels or the marshmallow cocoa toppers because I plan to put these in our stockings. I think they would make perfect stocking stuffers.

3. Wondershop at Target Caramel Corn Clusters, White Drizzle Pretzel Rods, and Rudolph's Trail Mix

I tried Target's Rudolph Trail Mix before so I was so excited to find it again this year. The caramel corn clusters are so good and I love that there are bits of dark chocolate sea salt mixed in. I haven't tried the white drizzle pretzel rods because I plan to put these in our stockings as well.

I am obsessed with Belgian Boys' Mini Stroopwafels. They are so good. I love that they come in individual packages. It's perfect for packing in a purse or backpack. I usually put one or two in my diaper backpack. It's also perfect if you're craving something sweet. I followed the suggestion that was listed on the package which was to place on stroopwafel in a hot drink. I placed one in my hot chocolate and it was delicious.

Overall, I'm very happy with everything that I found at Target. I was able to save on all of these items by using the Cartwheel app. I can't wait to find some more new things at Target.

Do you like to shop at Target? What have you found at Target lately?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...

What I Read in November

Happy Wednesday! Last month, I accomplished my reading goal and read one book. I read Lin-Manuel Miranda's new book, Gmorning, Gnight! I was so excited to read this book and check out Jonny Sun's illustrations.

Gmorning, Gnight! was such a great read. The book is filled with poems, advice, and original sayings by Miranda. I was surprised to find out that he got the idea to inspire his followers on Twitter by sharing words of encouragement. He decided to gather some of his popular greetings and sayings and compiled them into a book.

The photo above is one of my favorite sayings/words of advice from the book. In fact, I came across this page while flipping through the book at Barnes and Noble. I was instantly hooked and had to buy the book.

I loved Jonny Sun's illustrations. They all went perfectly with Lin-Manuel's words. I really hope that they work together soon and make another book.

What did you read in November? What do you plan to read this month?

Let It Snow VoxBox

Happy Tuesday! It's been a while since I received a voxbox from Influenster so I was pleasantly surprised when I received one in the mail. I received the Let It Snow VoxBox and it was filled with products for everyone in the family including pets!

Not Your Mother's Naturals Dry Shampoo

I don't use dry shampoos and I'm not really a fan of them. I tried a brand of dry shampoo a year or so ago and I was not impressed. I haven't tried this dry shampoo yet, but I really do like the scent. I'm actually excited to try this one because I have read great reviews of their products. I've also tried one of their regular shampoo and conditioner so I'm hoping that this dry shampoo works well.

Masquebar Black Gold Peel Off Mask

I'll be honest...I was so scared to try this because I've watched videos of people having a hard time taking off charcoal masks. Despite being hesitant to try the mask, I'm glad that I did because this mask is amazing! It was easy to apply and very easy to take off. All you have to do is peel (never pull) the mask off. This mask left my face feeling soft and smooth.

Barkbox Young Grinch & Max's Antlers

I don't have a dog, but these two items are just too cute. The Grinch is a squeaky toy and the antlers are perfect for dressing up your pet. I will be giving these two items to a friend and I'm sure that her dog is going to love it.

Gold Bond Ultimate Cracked Skin Fill & Protect Cream

I was so excited to try this cream. This is great for winter or if you work in a profession where you have to wash your hands frequently. This cream made my hands feel soft and not sticky. The cream is thick and lasts even after washing your hands.

Have you tried any of these products? What are some of your favorite products?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...

DISCLOSURE: I received the products described in this post complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster. All opinions are my own and no compensation was received.

If You and I Had Coffee

Happy Thursday. Today I'm joining Lecy from A Simpler Grace for a little virtual coffee chat.

If you and I had coffee...

We would meet at Barnes and Noble or a local bookstore. We would get some coffee. I would most likely get a toasted white chocolate mocha and a pastry or sandwich. We would be very happy to be indoors because it is way too cold outside.

If you and I had coffee...

I would tell you that I have been incredibly stressed and feeling overwhelmed. I keep trying to do too much in so little time. My to-do list is piling up and I haven't really been taking care of myself as much as I would like. I'm realizing that everything does not need to be perfect and it's ok if I have to put things off.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I am excited for the new year. Even though I have been stressed, there are so many things that I am looking forward to. I have so many realistic goals and I can't wait to share them soon.

If you and I had coffee...

I would tell you that I have been feeling like a horrible friend. I haven't been able to catch up with a lot of friends and I have also had to cancel a lot of plans. All of my friends are so understanding, but I still feel horrible.

If you and I had coffee...

I would tell you that I am so over the cold. I know it's still fall, but I consider the day after Thanksgiving to be the beginning of winter. I am so ready for Spring. Maybe I've been feeling a bit down because of the cold weather.

If you and I had coffee...

I would tell you that I am so excited for Christmas. It will be Raphael's first Christmas and we are excited to make some new memories with the newest member of our family.

If you and I had coffee...

I would tell you that I have been devouring all of the holiday treats and baked goods. I've been downing hot chocolate like there's no tomorrow. Right now, I am all about the holidays.

What would you tell me?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...

Holiday Gifts with Crayola

The holidays are upon us! I'm sure many of you have already started your holiday gift shopping. Many of you know how much I love Crayola and their products so I just had to share some really cool products that would be perfect for gifts.

Crayola Ultimate Light Board

The Ultimate Light Board is such a fun and easy to use product. You just simply draw your art directly onto the surface and then turn it on. There are LED lights that are built into the frame of the board and it makes the gel FX markers glow. You can also use the removable black panel to trace images. The light board is easy to clean...you just simply wipe it down.

My boys had so much fun using the light board and said that it is their favorite. We used the light board to write what we were thankful for on Thanksgiving. Check out the images below.

You can purchase the Crayola Ultimate Light Board here.

This color chemistry lab set is perfect for children who love science experiments and activities. It's really fun for the entire family. The set comes with an instruction booklet that has 50 science activities. There are enough Crayola supplies to do 16 of the experiments right from the box. I love that the science experiments were approved by real Crayola scientists. This is such a fun and educational gift. Adult supervision is required, but trust me you will have so much fun working on the activities.

You can purchase the Crayola Color Chemistry Lab Set here.

Other Crayola Products to Look for:

Crayola Melter

Scribble Scrubbie Pets

Silly Scents Sticker Maker

Which Crayola product is your favorite?

Disclosure: I did receive these products for free in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed here are my own. As always, I only recommend products and services that I have personally used.

December Goals

Happy Tuesday! Oh my goodness! It's December! I still can't believe how fast November came and went. This year will be over before we know it.

Since it's a new month, it's time for some new goals. Before we get to the new goals, let's recap on November. Okay, here we go...

Recap of November Goals

  • Read 1 book: I read Gmorning, Gnight! by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It was such a great book. Jonny Sun illustrated the book. I loved the little pep talks and poems. I will post a review soon.
  • Clean out the trunk of my car: This was a fail...again! It will get done this month. I really want to have the trunk of my car cleaned out before the end of the year.
  • Continue to work in my journal: I did work in my journal, but not as much as I wanted to. I had so many little projects to work on so I tried to divide my "me time" on them as equally as possible.
December Goals
  • Read 1 book
  • Clean out the trunk of my car
  • Continue to work in my journal
  • Try 1 new recipe

What are your goals for December?

TBB Asks: Holiday Edition

Happy Monday! Oh my goodness...it's finally December! Christmas is almost here and the year is almost over! Can you believe it?

Today I'm linking up with The Blended Blog for TBB Asks. TBB Asks is a monthly questionnaire link up series.

1. Candy Canes? Yes or No?
Yes, but I don't really eat candy canes anymore. I love to put them on my Christmas tree.

2. Christmas morning early riser or sleep in?
Early riser since I have children. When I was a kid (and even now), we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day was our recovery day.

3. Did you shop on Black Friday? Yes or No
We did go shopping on Black Friday this year. We had a few gifts that we wanted to make sure that we were able to get. Last year, I went to Michaels to get a new planner and a gingerbread house. Going to Michaels and Barnes and Noble has become a tradition.

4. Christmas Tree up in November? Yes or No

When I was younger, we would put the tree up in November. For the past few years, we've put it up in December.

5. Do you get Holiday ideas from Pinterest? Yes or No
Nope. I'm really bad at checking Pinterest. It's been a while since I checked out Pinterest.

6. Christmas Glam or Ugly Sweater?
Definitely Christmas Glam. I tend to have a super laid back wardrobe and basically live in T-shirts, leggings (or yoga pants), and sneakers so it's nice to dress up.

7. Stocking Stuffers: Wrapped or Unwrapped?
Unwrapped. Do people actually wrap stocking stuffers?

8. Traditional or Modern Christmas Songs?
A mix of both.

9. Fruitcake? Yes or No
I've never had a fruitcake and I don't think I will ever try one. They don't look really good.

10. Is your Christmas Shopping Finished? Yes or NO
Almost...

11. Is there Snow in December where you live?
I wish...we have gotten a tiny bit of snow before, but nothing like the snow that NYC gets. Oh how I miss living in New York City during Christmas time.

12. Classic Show: A Charlie Brown Christmas or Rudolph?
Both. They are both such great shows.

Currently List

Happy Thursday! It's been a while since I posted a currently list. I think I may just have to try and post a currently list once a month.

Watching: I finally watched Love, Simon. It was such a great movie. There's a lot that I want to say about this movie, but I think I'm going to share that in a separate post. I've also been slowly catching up on a lot shows. My DVR was out control and almost completely full.

Reading: I've been reading Friday Black and it is such a good book. Everyone should read it.

Listening: Lovelytheband, Bastille, and Panic! at the Disco have been at the top of my playlist. I've also been listening to Christmas songs like Michael Buble and the Puppini Sisters' Jingle Bells.

Making: I've been working in my Autumn Stories travelers notebook. It's been such a fun project and I can't wait to share it soon. I'm also working on another project and I'm really excited about it. I'm slowly getting out of my creative rut because of the second project.

Feeling: I've been extremely exhausted. There's just too much to do and so little time. Being exhausted is causing me to become stressed. I really need to learn to slow down and not take on too many tasks in one day.

Planning: So. Many. Christmas. Events. We went to see Santa and got some pictures taken. Since we got a lot of stuff done ahead of time, we can just focus on going to a lot of fun events. What are some of your favorite holiday events and activities?

Loving: It's been really cold and it makes me love warm pajamas and blankets so much more. There's nothing like some warm pajamas, blankets, and a cup of hot chocolate on a cold day.

What are you currently up to?

Until next time...

Ways to Build a Library and Save Money on Books

Happy Tuesday! If you know me, I love buying books just as much as I love reading them. I've been making my own little home library and I'm also working on making a little library for my boys. But let's be real...sometimes buying books can be expensive. However there are so many ways to save money on books and build your own little library. Today I'm sharing how I've been building my library as well as my favorite places to shop for books.

I really need to buy another bookcase.

1. Barnes and Noble

I am a rewards member at Barnes and Noble. Trust me when I say that their membership is so worth the price! The benefits are amazing and I love the new changes that they made to their memberships and rules. The membership costs $25 a year. You can get 40% off the list price of hardcover bestsellers and 10% off the price of almost everything else in store. When you order online, you get free express shipping. Barnes and Noble also mails out a lot of coupons and they also send coupons via email. The coupons also works in the cafe as well. You can find out more information about Barnes and Noble's membership here.

2. Used bookstores

I don't go to a lot of used bookstores, but you can definitely find some good books at very affordable prices in a used bookstore. There's a local used bookstore in my city and it is great. My local bookstore offers store credit and also offers all books at 50% off the publishers list price.

3. Amazon

I personally have never shopped for books on Amazon, but I have checked out the site for prices. The prices for most of the books are pretty decent. The main reason why I don't shop for books online is that I love going to bookstores. I love getting a cup of coffee and just checking out the entire bookstore.

4. Library sales

My local library has two library sales a year and it is amazing! They have thousands of books at insanely good prices. Many people bring little wagons, carts, etc. to carry their books.

5. Scholastic Book Club

My kids bring home a Scholastic Book Club Catalogue almost every month and it makes me so happy. This is such a great way to build a library for kids. The prices are very affordable and I love that the books are shipped to the school. I also love that teachers can earn free books for their class when parents place an order.

Where do you shop for books? Do you have your own mini library?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...

Halloween 2018 Mini Album

Happy Monday! Halloween has come and gone. However, I've still been kind of celebrating by working on some Halloween projects. The main project that I have been working on (and finally completed) is my Halloween mini album. I've been going through a creative rut and this project has definitely helped me overcome this.

When I celebrate Halloween, I usually don't just celebrate it on the actual holiday. I celebrate Halloween all month long so I added a few photos from our pre-Halloween celebration as well as a couple of other photos from throughout the month.

Please note that this is a photo heavy post.

This was such a fun, little project to work on. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Supplies Used:
  • American Crafts BOOtiful Night 6x6 Paper Pad
  • American Crafts BOOtiful Night Puffy Stickers
  • Crate Paper After Dark Wood Veneer
  • Crate Paper After Dark Puffy Stickers
  • Crate Paper After Dark Cardstock Stickers

How did you document your Halloween?

TBB Asks: Giving Thanks Edition

Happy Tuesday! I still can't believe that it's already November! How in the world is the year almost over? Seriously, this year is going by way too fast!

Today, I'm linking up with The Blended Blog for TBB Asks. TBB Asks is a monthly questionnaire link up series.

1. Have you ever kept a Gratitude Journal? Yes or No? I've never kept an actual gratitude journal. However, I post a list of all the things that make me happy during the week on my blog.

2. Hosting Thanksgiving at your house? Yes or No? No, but I think once we buy our own house, we might just host Thanksgiving.

3. Favorite Food from The Thanksgiving Meal? That is a tough one. I honestly can't choose just one.

4. What one thing in Nature are you most grateful for? I'm really grateful for trees and leaves. They go through changes during the season and reminds me of life and death. It's amazing to watch how they go through changes especially during fall.

5. Pumpkin Pie: Yes or No? Yes! It's a classic! I definitely prefer pumpkin pie over apple pie.

6. Traditional Cookbook: Yes or No? We don't have a traditional cookbook, but I would love to make a cookbook of all of my mami's recipes.

7. Oven Baked or Deep-Fried Turkey? We always make an oven baked turkey. Actually, my husband makes it. I hate cooking and deep frying a turkey sounds like it would be a disaster if I tried it. I'd probably accidentally burn everything down.

8. Thanksgiving Leftovers: Yes or No? Yes! Always yes!

9. What is one household product you are most grateful for? I can't choose just one. I am grateful for all of my appliances. I'm especially grateful for my crockpot. I use it a lot during this time of year.

10. Are you most grateful for home cooked meals or restaurant meals? I'm most grateful for home cooked meals. They are always made with love and remind me of home.

November Goals

Happy Thursday! Can you believe it's already November? I'm so excited for Thanksgiving! And Christmas will be here before you know it, so I can't wait to finish shopping for the holiday.

It's a new month and it's time to share my new goals for November. Before we get to my new goals, let's have a recap on my goals from October.

Recap of October Goals

  • Read 1 book: This was a fail. I have been reading, but I just didn't finish my book on time. I also need to catch up on a lot of blogs. I checked Bloglovin' and the amount of posts that I have to read is insane.
  • Make 3 greeting cards: I actually made three cards! I made a card for my boys' bus driver. I also made a Halloween and Christmas card. I also made a Halloween mini album. I made the base and put all the pages together. All I have to do is add photos, embellishments, and some journaling. I'm so glad that I accomplished this goal and it felt so good to finally create again.
  • Try 3 new recipes: This was a fail. I did try one new recipe, but I didn't make three. October was such a busy month and I stuck with my usual recipes.
  • Work in my journal: This was a pass and a fail. I did work in my journal, but I didn't write/sketch in it as much as I would have liked. I've been in a creative rut and it's been bothering me a lot. Although I did make a few things this month, I really wanted to work in my journal. However, every time I opened up my journal...I just didn't know what to write.
  • Clean out the trunk of my car: Oh my goodness. This is a fail. Everyday I would say that I was going to clean it, but then I would push it back.

November Goals

  • Read 1 book
  • Clean out the trunk of my car
  • Make Christmas cards
  • Continue to work in my journal

What are your goals for November?

Thanks for visiting!

Until next time...

My Favorite Halloween Movies

It's almost Halloween! I've been watching so many Halloween movies! I've watched a nice mix of family friendly films as well as scary films (that obviously my boys are not allowed to watch). Since one of my favorite movie genres is horror and it's almost Halloween, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite Halloween movies. I've included some family friendly films in my list as well.

  • Practical Magic: I love this movie so much. I love the Midnight Margaritas scene and the song Coconut by Harry Nilsson always gets stuck in my head.
  • Hocus Pocus: A classic. This is a must watch Halloween film. I watch it every year.
  • Coraline: This is a creepy movie, but it's so good. There's even a book.
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas: We love this movie so much. The boys always ask to watch this movie. We consider this film to be both a Halloween and Christmas movie so we watch it on both holidays. It's become a family tradition and we love it.
  • The Addams Family: Another classic. Wednesday Addams is my favorite character.
  • Hotel Transylvania (The entire franchise): We love the entire franchise. This is one of the boys' favorite film series.
  • The Book of Life: Oh my goodness. This is one of my favorite movies. The songs are amazing!
  • Coco: This is another one of my favorite movies. I love the story as well as the music. I think everyone should watch this at least once. I've been singing Remember Me a lot.
  • Halloweentown (The entire series): I always love watching the entire series during fall and Halloween. It brings me back to my childhood. However, I don't watch the last film in the series as much as the first three films.
  • Beetlejuice: Betelgeuse! Betelgeuse! Betelgeuse!
  • House on Haunted Hill: This film used to scare me so much when I was younger.
  • Dawn of the Dead: I've watched this movie so many times and it still scares me every single time! *SPOILER* There's a scene where one of the characters asks why the zombies are coming to the mall. One of the other characters says that maybe the zombies remember the mall (perhaps they still retained some memory of their past life) or maybe the zombies just know that they are there! So scary!
  • The Conjuring (The entire series): This entire series is amazing! I love all of the other films in the Conjuring Universe as well. I highly recommend that you watch them all.
  • Halloween (The entire franchise): Another classic. I'm sure this is on everyone's list of horror films to watch.

There are so many other great Halloween movies that I watch during this time of year and I know I definitely forgot to name a few. However, these are my go to films for this time of year.

What are some of your favorite Halloween movies?

Currently List

Happy Wednesday! It's been about a month since my last currently post and I thought it was time to share another one.

Watching: It's that time of year for horror movies and I've been watching so many of them. I've watched a few classics and some newer movies. The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Book of Life, and Coco are some of our favorite family friendly films. We watch those three films every October...it's a family tradition.

Reading: I'm still reading Smothered by Autumn Chiklis. It's such a great book. I plan to read the Graveyard Book or Coraline next as my "spooky" read for the month.

Listening: I'm loving Youngblood by 5 Seconds of Summer.

Making: I'm working on some greeting cards, but I'm currently working on a card for my boys' bus driver. Bus Driver Appreciation Week is this week and I'm so excited to give my boys' bus driver her gift. She is so kind and the best bus driver ever!

Feeling: I don't know if alive is the right word, but it's the first word that came to my mind when describing how I'm feeling. This is my favorite time of year and I've just felt more energetic than usual.

Planning: I'm going to take advantage of early voting. I don't normally get political on my blog, but I think it's important to vote. I'm excited to go do my part and take action.

Loving: The weather has been perfect especially in the mornings. It's been so much cooler, but then it warms up a bit in the afternoon.

What are you currently up to?

Raphael - 6 Months

I can't believe Raphael is now 6 months old! My plan was to make an update every month on the blog, but I think I'm going to make updates every couple of months.

Size: Raphael is continuing to gain weight. We were taking him every two weeks or so for weight checks. His doctor was so happy with his latest weight check. He is now 13 pounds and his length/height is 24.5 in. Raphael is wearing 3-6 months clothing and is in size 2 diapers.

Breastfeeding: Breastfeeding is still going well and it's still Raphael's primary source of food. He still gets two bottles of fortified breastmilk. We also started solids! Raphael has tried baby cereal, applesauce, and banana (baby food).

Sleep: Raphael is still sleeping more at night, but he does wake up at least once during the night. I am also still pumping at night.

Loves: He still loves bath time. He loves playing with his toys and brothers. We bought Raphael the Fisher Price Sit Me Up Floor Seat and he likes it. It's one of my favorite baby purchases.

Dislikes: He still dislikes the car seat and not being in motion. He hates when we take too long to feed him.

Things I Want To Remember:

  • We started solids! We tried baby cereal, applesauce, and bananas.
  • The face he made when he tried baby food for the first time.
  • He is babbling and cooing even more!
  • His first Fall and Halloween event! We went to his brothers' fall festival and we had a blast.
  • His costume is Max from Where the Wild Things Are.

What I Read in September

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We had a great weekend! We went to a fall festival. We usually go to at least one fall festival, but we plan to go to at least two festivals this year. This festival was so much fun. The boys wore their costumes and played some games. We can't wait to go to the next festival and go on some more fall adventures.

This weekend, I read a lot of blog posts and I started reading a new book. Here's to hoping that I can reach my reading goal for this month. Last month, I didn't accomplish my reading goal, but I am happy to say that I did read one book. I also read a lot of amazing blog posts. If there are any blogs that you love, please let me know. I love finding new blogs.

Below is the book that I read as well as the blog posts that I loved.

Must Read

I read Show Your Work by Austin Kleon and I loved it! I love Austin's blog. I wanted to read Steal Like An Artist, but my library didn't have that book in stock. Instead of waiting to read that book, I decided to read Show Your Work (I think it's his second book) and I'm so glad that I did.

The book is filled with illustrations, quotes, and stories on about getting your work discovered. I love that he focuses on using the network rather than actually networking. This was such an informative read.

There were two things that Austin wrote that have stuck with me. One of those things is his idea to read obituaries. It may sound a bit morbid, but his reasoning makes a lot of sense. Austin wrote, "Reading about people who are dead now and did things with their lives makes me want to get up and do something decent with mine." If that isn't a motivator then I don't know what is.

At the end of the third chapter, Austin wrote "Don't say you don't have enough time". This is something that I have often said when I haven't been able to do something that I actually did want to do. I love that he suggested using a timer in order to work on stuff. I have been using a timer whenever I work in my journal as well as to read. Using a timer has helped and I have noticed that I have been getting closer to reaching my reading goals. He also mentioned finding time in between big tasks. I have tried this and I have found time in between various tasks to work on stuff I want to get done. Sometimes I'll read in my car while I wait for my boys to get home from school or I'll work when everyone is asleep.

Show Your Work is such a great read and I highly recommend it. I can't wait to read Steal Like An Artist as well as his new book Keep Going.

Blog Posts I Loved

This post about showing up for your friends is so good. I always feel bad when I have to cancel or reschedule things with friends.

Sarah's letter to her son is so sweet.

I love how Kelli used her stamps and a pattern stamping technique in her journal.

This. I think everyone should read this.

Emelia's post on her experience and thoughts on NICU life is amazing. As you may know, my little one was born early and had to stay in the NICU. I found myself nodding in agreement as I read Emelia's story.

October Goals

Happy Wednesday! September went by so fast! I'm so excited for October. I have so many things planned and it's going to be a really busy month. I can't wait to go to a few fall festivals and Halloween events.

Since it's a new month, it's time to share my goals for October. Before we get to my new goals, let's have a little recap on my goals from September.

Recap of September Goals
  • Read 2 books: This was a fail. I did read Show Your Work by Austin Kleon and I will be sharing a review soon. I also read a lot of blogs.
  • Publish 12 blog posts: I posted exactly 12 times. I actually wanted to blog more than 12 times, but I'm glad that I was able to accomplish this goal.
  • Make 3 greeting cards: This was a fail. I didn't make any cards. Actually, I didn't really work that much on any projects.
  • Try 3 new recipes: This was a fail. I do have a list of recipes that I want to try, but I'm having a hard time deciding which ones to choose.
  • Go on a "No Spend" month: This was a fail. To be fair, I did purchase things that I meant to get in August. I did so well until the end of the month.
October Goals
  • Read 1 book
  • Make 3 greeting cards
  • Try 3 new recipes
  • Work in my journal
  • Clean out the trunk of my car

What are your goals for October?

Until next time...
